 I'm sure the idea for LLAMA LLAMA RED PAJAMA came from my experiences with my own children. As a mom who had to work "outside the home" for money, as well as hold down the fort inside the home, I spent many hours up to my elbows in soapsuds from the dinner dishes and writing mental lists of things to do, when there would come a plaintive "Mommy... !" from upstairs, long after the children were (I thought) asleep.
I'd had the idea for LLAMA LLAMA RED PAJAMA for a long time. I find that I get an idea, and it grows - and gets written - over time, usually in my head. And then -- pop! - one day it comes pouring out on the page. Sometimes I'll need to do a great deal of re-writing, sometimes not.
